2012 Georgia Ballot Questions
AFPGA urges a Yes vote on both GA Constitutional amendments.
The first question is the charter authorization amendment. This re-establishes the GA Charter Commission as an alternate authorizer. 32 other states have alternate authorizers, beyond local school boards, which have typically been hostile to start up charter schools. The local control argument is as empty as Clint Eastwood’s chair – parents of students are the most local control, and this amendment will help give them options.
The second question deals with multi-year real estate leases. This is just good business sense, as it allows the state to negotiate better rates for buildings, because the term can exceed one year.
