ATLANTA– The Georgia chapter of Americans for Prosperity will hold a rally on Tuesday, July 29 from Noon-2pm outside the Enivronmental Protection Agency’s regional meeting to consider their proposed greenhouse gas regulations. Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips will join State Director Michael Harden and a diverse group of stakeholders, to launch the Georgia Energy Freedom Alliance.
All media are welcome to attend.
Rally attendees may RSVP in advance for a FREE rally t-shirt and rally water bottle on site when they arrive. – RSVP at www.StopTheEPAGA.eventbrite.com
What: A rally to oppose the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed carbon dioxide reduction rules and to educate media and rally goers about the harmful impacts on job creation and energy costs followed by a press conference to introduce the Georgia Energy Freedom Alliance and the Georgia Energy Freedom Guiding Principles.
Location: Outside Sam Nunn Federal Building [site of EPA hearings] on Alabama Street side of the building – 61 Forsyth Street, SE, Atlanta, Georgia 30303
Why: In early June, the Obama administration announced the latest in its ideology-driven attack on traditional energy production — a new EPA rule to cut carbon-dioxide emissions from coal- and gas-fired power plants across the United States. This proposed rule mandates a reduction of 30 percent of the greenhouse gas emissions from the nation’s power plants by 2030, based on 2005 emissions levels.
“This is a pocket book issue. Federal micromanaging of Georgia’s electricity generation portfolio will invariably cause electricity prices to rise, and higher electricity bills are bad news for struggling Georgia families – and the most vulnerable families will be the hardest hit,” said Americans for Prosperity Georgia State Director Michael Harden. “And because such a significant portion of Georgia’s electricity comes from coal, the EPA regulations would have an overwhelmingly negative impact on jobs in Georgia.”
AFP President Tim Phillips also said the following:
“President Obama’s EPA is waging a war on traditional affordable energy through burdensome regulations and unrealistic mandates. It’s time for the American people to stand up to this federal overreach, and send a message that they cannot afford to pay for Obama’s environmental ideology.”
