Americans for Prosperity, Georgia’s premiere organization for economic freedom, gathers outside the Atlanta Federal Center – Sam Nunn Building this Thursday, August 16 to protest new EPA energy regulations and call for environmental sanity in Georgia. The rally will be held during the EPA’s own conference promoting these very same regulations. These regulations will cause the cost of energy for hard-working Georgia families to skyrocket and will cost Georgia thousands of jobs. The rally will feature grassroots policy leaders: Virginia Galloway, State Director of Americans for Prosperity; Patti Gettinger, Vice Chair of The Georgia Tea Party; Lance Brown, Executive Director of Partnership for Affordable Clean Energy (P.A.C.E.) and Julianne Thompson, GA Tea Party Patriots.
According to research from the American Legislative Exchange Council and others, Georgia stands to directly and indirectly lose over 11,000 jobs due to these regulations. Georgia families will see an estimated 8.2%-10% rise in their electricity rates.
“The cumulative impact of EPA’s regulatory actions, resulting in a reduction of domestic energy supply and higher energy prices, could force the U.S. to rely even more heavily on foreign energy which can potentially stifle our fragile economic recovery,” says former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue, signer of a governor’s coalition letter opposing EPA overreach.
“EPA’s regulatory action will dramatically impact Georgians for the worse, raising energy costs and increased job loss at a time when Georgia already suffers under this weak economic recovery and 9% unemployment,” says AFP State Director Virginia Galloway. “All of this is being done in the name of dubious scientific research that shows these regulations will have a negligible impact on environmental performance. Even the EPA’s own representatives have conceded this point.”
“Job losses and higher electricity rates caused by EPA’s regulatory train wreck disproportionately hurts minorities, who already suffer from higher unemployment rates and struggle to pay utility bills, “ says Georgia Tea Party Vice-Chair Patti Gettinger. “Where’s the justice in that?”
“EPA seems to pay little attention to what their out of touch regulatory regime will cost power consumers,” says P.A.C.E. Exective Director Lance Brown. “Where is the economic justice for American families and businesses who simply want affordable, reliable power?”
