Protect Local Control of Education
On Monday, September 23rd Governor Scott announced a plan for protecting Florida’s students and now he needs your support with the legislature.
The Governor issued an executive order requiring Florida take back control over students assessments by withdrawing from PARCC, a national education consortium that is developing a test for dozens of states. The Governor made clear that he wants to ensure Florida students have the highest standards possible, that curriculum and instructional materials are decided at the local level, and that student data is protected.
Senate President Don Gaetz and House Speaker Will Weatherford have already voiced support for withdrawing from PARCC. Now, the legislature needs to show their support for Governor Scott and Florida’s students by proposing and passing legislation that will make his requests part of Florida law — ensuring our education system is locally controlled for years to come.
