Tell New Britain’s Mayor to Evict the New Landlord Fee!

November 16, 2012

New Britain’s city council recently approved a $150 per unit fee on the owners of apartment buildings who serve as landlords. You can read more about it HERE.

This tax will undoubtedly be passed along to the residents in the town and those who can least afford it will be the most adversely affected.  The fee is being billed as a means to help close the current budget shortfall of approximately $4 million.

Contact New Britain Mayor Timothy O’Brien today and tell him you oppose higher taxes on the city’s homeowners!

Plaintiffs representing New Britain affected homeowners have filed suit against the City of New Britain and Mayor Timothy E. O’Brien challenging the constitutionality of the fee.  You can read more about it HERE.

Keep in mind that this is just the start – if we don’t protect New Britain’s homeowners, it’s just a matter of time before other towns consider this scheme.

On Wednesday night, a group of more than 600 homeowners stood outside City Hall to protest the new fee.  You can read more about it and watch video from the evening HERE.

I encourage you to contact New Britain Mayor Timothy O’Brien at 860-826-3303 and tell him to eliminate this new burden on taxpayers and residents!  You can also email his office.

If allowed to move forward, this tax will likely grow as the budget shortfall grows.  And this idea for creating a new fee to allow for more government spending will spread to other towns across our state.  We must stand up for the residents of New Britain and put a stop to this unnecessary tax!

Contact New Britain Mayor Timothy O’Brien at 860-826-3303 today!
