Connecticut Congressional Delegation Must Oppose “Farm Bill”

August 15, 2012

Food Stamps and Corporate Welfare Spending Folded Into Drought Legislation

Hartford, CT- Americans for Prosperity-Connecticut (AFP-CT) is calling on members of the U.S. House of Representatives to vote in opposition to the “Farm Bill.”

This is a Farm Bill in name only,” said JR Romano, State Director AFP-CT.  “While 80% of the bill’s spending goes to food stamps; the rest is welfare spending of a different kind: corporate welfare.”

The U.S. Senate passed their version of the Farm Bill in June.

While family farmers are facing drought conditions this summer, the U.S. Congress is considering providing a torrent of spending in this legislation” continued Romano.  “I call upon the U.S. House members from CT to seize this opportunity to reform federal programs and cut spending by opposing this bill.

Americans for Prosperity opposes the Farm Bill because it is packed with wasteful farm subsidies that mostly benefit the biggest and best-connected farms rather than the small family farmers. The House of Representatives is now considering the Farm Bill and AFP is calling on all citizens in Connecticut to contact their Congressman in opposition to this massive welfare bill.
