Americans for Prosperity-CT Urges Congress to Repeal ObamaCare

May 16, 2013

HARTFORD – Americans for Prosperity Connecticut is expressing their support today for H.R. 45 which would repeal the Unaffordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare.

“Passing this law in the first place was a huge mistake but today the House has the opportunity to repeal Obamacare. They should take advantage of that opportunity and do so,” said JR Romano, Americans for Prosperity Connecticut State Director. “The longer this law is on the books, the more onerous and expensive it seems to become.”

When the law was first proposed, advocates insisted that it would “only” cost $1 trillion over the next decade. According to recent CBO estimates, the gross cost of the law is now up to $1.68 trillion. In addition, the law includes a number of tax hikes that could prove damaging to the economy, including the 3.8 percent surtax on investment income for high earners and the 2.3 percent tax on gross sales of medical devices. The law also imposes new burdens on employers, such as requiring businesses with more than 50 full-time workers to provide affordable health insurance or pay a penalty.

“Despite all these increases in taxes, health care premiums and other costs to both individuals and businesses, there is no evidence that the quality of health care will improve,” continued Romano. “In fact, ObamaCare creates the Independent Payment Advisory Board which will put unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats in between Connecticut patients and their doctors. We should not shift control of health care decisions away from individuals and their families. We should repeal ObamaCare today.”
