Stop Governor Malloy From Hedging Bets on “Next Five’ Program!

August 22, 2012

As you may know, Governor Malloy has decided to provide some incentives to Bridgewater, the Westport-based largest hedge fund manager in the world, to consolidate their existing offices in Westport, Norwalk and Wilton into a new green office in Stamford.  He is heralding the deal as part of his “Next Five” program, which was created to provide economic aid and incentives for companies to move to CT or for existing CT–based companies to create new jobs. Instead, Governor Malloy is providing forgivable loans and up to $80 million in tax credits to a $130 billion hedge fund that already employs over 1,000 people in Connecticut!

Rather than admit his “Next Five’ program has been a failure, Governor Malloy is willing to give away taxpayer money to profitable hedge funds that do not need state resources just to ensure all the taxpayer’s money gets spent!

We think hedge funds are great sources of skilled labor, high paying jobs and have a positive impact on the Connecticut economy. They are great examples of small businesses that, like Bridgewater, can become wonderful success stories. Yes, they did build that! But, to provide tax credits and forgivable loans to these very profitable companies is wrong.

Contact your state legislators and tell them to stop Governor Malloy from wasting your money on programs like this.
