Taxing Californians more for the energy they use won't solve the state's fiscal crisis
State Chairman Peter Foy and State Director David Spady of the grassroots advocacy organization Americans for Prosperity California issued the following comments regarding the Senate Governance and Finance Committee vote on AB 723 today:
The Committee used the opportunity of this hearing to once again rationalize taxing Californians more for the energy they use instead of increasing state revenues by cutting taxes and stimulating the economy in order to foster job creation, explained State Director David Spady. Instead of blaming Republican Committee Members for taking a firm stand against bills like AB 723 that would raise taxes, Senator Wolk should ask herself why she isnt willing as Committee Chair to vote to restore Californias economic prosperity. Taxing Californians more for the energy they use won’t solve the state’s fiscal crisis.
AB 723 is a $350 million utility tax on Californians, pure and simple, stated State Chairman Peter Foy. To consider a tax of this magnitude, especially at a time of economic uncertainty, is both foolish and irresponsible. I congratulate Senators Fuller, Huff, and LaMalfa for standing up and voting NO on AB 723. Californians need economic prosperity, not further economic hardship.”
