Dear Representative Black:
On behalf of more than two million Americans for Prosperity activists in all 50 states, I am writing in support of the Protecting Taxpayer Dollars and Identity under Obamacare Act (H.R. 2087), which would prohibit the federal government from funding patient navigator programs under the President’s health care law. AFP has a number of concerns about the Navigators program, which is tasked with enrolling people into government-run health insurance exchanges.
It is appropriate for government to make public information about programs for which citizens are eligible. This information should facilitate basic understanding of programs and do so in unbiased, apolitical manner. Unfortunately, the Navigator program is poised to violate this basic standard. Secretary Sebelius has already begun making $54 million worth of grants.
The Obama administration is currently embroiled in one scandal after another. IRS targeting of American citizens who disagree with the President; Secretary Sebelius fundraising for nonprofits from companies that she regulates; EPA officials using secret emails accounts and false names to avoid public accountability; and the list goes on and on. How can the American people trust that HHS won’t politicize the Navigator program?
Using third party groups like Enroll America, the beneficiary of Secretary Sebelius’ fundraising, and Organizing for Action, President Obama’s campaign apparatus, to sign people up for the health insurance exchanges is certain to result in misuse.
Your legislation also highlights the problem of dizzying complexity in the President’s health care law. Americans will have difficulty navigating the labyrinth themselves—Washington has to hire field staff to go out and sign up people for the benefits.
The Navigator program goes above and beyond educating prospective participants on their eligibility—this is about promoting President Obama’s agenda at the cost of the taxpayer.
Americans for Prosperity supports the Protecting Taxpayer Dollars and Identity under Obamacare Act (H.R.2087) and encourages your colleagues to support its passage.
