AFP Statement on Murray Budget

“Murray’s budget reminds one of Einstein’s definition of insanity…”

Arlington, VA – Today Americans for Prosperity president Tim Phillips issued the following statement in response to Senator Murray’s budget proposal:

“After four long years of failing to do the most basic function of governing, Senate Democrats have finally put forward a budget.  That is good to see.  However, Senate Budget Chairman Patty Murray has offered more of the same tax-and-spend big government policies that have failed to restore economic growth and failed to fix our fiscal mess.

“Murray’s budget raises taxes by $1.5 trillion and still never balances; this is on top of the $620 billion in new taxes enacted in January.  While these taxes will impinge on economic growth they won’t come close to solving our budget problem.  What’s worse, her budget actual increases spending, demonstrating her budget’s fundamental failure to understand the nation’s overspending problem.  Murray’s budget proposes to increase spending by $116 billion next year alone.

“Senator Murray’s budget reminds one of Einstein’s definition of insanity, ‘Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.’  For years now President Obama and congressional Democrats have spent unprecedented amounts of taxpayer money in pursuit of an ideology that assumes government spending creates real jobs and lasting prosperity — neither of which are true.  Despite presiding over the slowest economic ‘recovery’ since the Great Depression, their new budget continues the same failed policies somehow expecting all this government spending will suddenly get our economy moving.”
