IS SEN. PRYOR DUCKING VOTES ON OBAMACARE?

June 13, 2014

LITTLE ROCK - The Associated Press reports today that several Democrats on the Senate Appropriations Committee “expressed reservations” and urged the cancellation of an important vote in order to avoid taking a stand on a series of Obamacare amendments.

Sen. Mark Pryor claims repeatedly that he is working hard to fix the problems with this healthcare law.  Arkansans deserve to know whether he was among those who urged the Appropriations Committee to cancel the votes to protect himself politically.

Phoebe Pierpoint, Arkansas Deputy State Director for Americans for Prosperity, issued the following statement:

“It’s time for Sen. Pryor to ‘put his money where his mouth is.’  If he were really working to fix Obamacare he wouldn’t be running from tough votes and he wouldn’t be expressing reservations about taking a stand.  Sen. Pryor claims he’s trying to relieve the burden for Arkansas families, but all we see is one political game after another from someone who’s mastered being a career politician.”

DID SEN. MARK PRYOR “EXPRESS RESERVATIONS” ABOUT VOTING ON OBAMACARE FIXES?

Vote On Obamacare Amendments Canceled Due To Reservations By Top Committee Democrats: “The chairwoman of the Senate committee responsible for a bill funding implementation of ‘Obamacare’ has canceled a vote on the measure after Republicans signaled they would force a series of politically painful votes on endangered committee Democrats. Wednesday’s move by Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., came after several committee Democrats expressed reservations about voting on amendments related to President Barack Obama’s health care law.” (Andrew Taylor, “Mikulski Postpones Vote On Health Spending Bill,” Associated Press, 6/11/14)

Senator Mark Pryor Among Those At Risk: “Several Appropriations Democrats, including Mark Pryor of Arkansas, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Mark Begich of Alaska, are at risk of losing re-election bids this fall.” (Andrew Taylor, “Mikulski Postpones Vote On Health Spending Bill,” Associated Press, 6/11/14)

Flashback: Sen. Pryor Claims He’s Working To Fix Obamacare:

Pryor: “Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is.” “In an interview, Pryor made clear that it makes sense to move a package of fixes to the floor that can attract GOP support. ‘I hate to say it, but it’s a little bit of ‘put your money where your mouth is,’’ Pryor said of Republicans. ‘You’re identifying all these things, let’s go ahead and try to fix them.’” (Manu Raju, “2014 Dems Plot Obamacare Strategy,” Politico, 1/29/14)
