HB 1041: Responsible Spending Initiative
Representative Bruce Westerman, Hot Springs, introduced HB1041 which would limit the growth of government spending so that it would not exceed the growth of the economy. This bill is a good opportunity to change the “spend every penny” mentality the state of Arkansas currently practices.
SB 65: Student Opportunity
Senator Johnny Key, Mt. Home, filed SB65 which would allow a student trapped in a failing public school to transfer (once per year) to a different public school.
SB 54: Government Mandated Building Materials
AFP Arkansas opposes Senate Bill 54, which mandates that state construction projects use 25% “Made in America” steel and iron materials. This patriotic-sounding mandate sounds great, but as with every other government mandate, it is the taxpayers who suffer from the resulting high costs and increased waste.
If you see that any of your legislators are on the committees that would take up these bills, please contact them. Let them know that a vote for economic freedom is a vote for the future of Arkansas.
