States should reject Obamacare exchanges

March 15, 2012 J

AFP's very own Nicole Kaeding wrote an excellent article on why states should decide against any healthcare exchanges. The end result is limited or no freedom in our own healthcare decisions. Anyone who continues to tout that these "exchanges" would be our own (especially after taking Federal money to set them up) is kidding themselves. With that said, why would Governor Mike Beebe continue to support this plan?

One of the most important issues facing states this legislative session is whether to create a health care exchange to implement the president’s health care law. States are being tempted by words like “flexibility” and very large grants from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to gain their compliance, but states that value health care freedom should resist and refuse to implement Obama’s health care exchanges.

Sign AFP’s statement to the Supreme Court

We believe the President’s entire health care law must be struck down.

Women need more economic freedom, not more government

March 12, 2012 J

Preach.

Thursday was International Women’s Day, so it’s fitting that we take a moment to recognize factors that contribute to greater gender equality around the world. Here’s a hint: Gender equality is not, as some op-ed writers have suggested recently, the result of government action.

Data from two different sources — the Fraser Institute’s Economic Freedom of the World Index and the United Nations’ Gender Inequality Index — show that women who live in societies with more economic freedom enjoy greater gender equality. In other words, women don’t need help to achieve equality; they just need governments and coercive institutions to get out of their way.

What we have here is a failure… just a failure

November 16, 2011 J

We just keep shaking our heads. Thanks to David Kinkade and the Arkansas Project for posting the following.

Yesterday we looked in on how Arkansas has fared in spending economic stimulus funds awarded under the 2009 American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. That whole exercise in futility is in the process of winding down, as the numbers show: The state has now spent some $2.9 billion of its $3.2 billion stimulus allotment.
