Tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. Arkansas Legislators on the Arkansas Legislative Council (ALC) Committee will undertake several important matters. One that we would like to highlight, though, is about the gift that keeps on giving - Health Insurance Exchanges.
As we've previously stated (and you, we're sure, know) - health insurance exchange legislation was killed during the 2012 regular session. The problem is that Governor Mike Beebe and Insurance Commissioner Jay Bradford keep bringing it back up. This time the Governor and Commissioner Bradford will push legislators to spend $7.4 MILLION to implement Obama’s Health Care Exchange.

We believe the Presidents entire health care law must be struck down.

Health and Human Services Sec. Kathleen Sebelius appeared flummoxed by questioning from Sen. Ron Johnson (R., Wis.) at a hearing on the new health care law Wednesday.
Johnson challenged Sebelius over a number of the Obama administrations claims about the new health care law, namely that it will reduce the deficit and allow individuals to keep their current healthcare plans.
On several occasions, Sebelius professed to have no idea what Johnson was talking about.
Johnson cited a McKinsey Group study that estimated 30 to 50 percent of employers would drop their employee coverage once the new law is fully implement, the effect of which could be hundreds of billions of dollars, if not trillions, added to the federal deficit.

This morning in the Joint Budget Committee meeting in Little Rock, State Senator Jonathan Dismang proposed an amendment that would require $40 million of existing state surplus monies be shifted to the (swiftly going bankrupt) Medicaid Trust Fund. Keep in mind that Arkansas Medicaid is projected to go into a $250-$400 million shortfall in fiscal year 2013.
Now admittedly Senator Dismang's proposal doesn't "fix" the looming crisis; however it would help matters until something more permanent could be done. What happened today in committee was the continuation of liberals within our Legislature to turn a blind eye to any conservative approach to the approaching fiscal Medicaid failure. When will they learn that we can't tax ourselves into prosperity? I guess that's the ultimate question, though. When will they learn? Or will they learn?

While the Old Media has been ecstatic over recent job numbers, claiming that some 200,000 jobs have been added to the economy, we should note that while Obama giveth Obama also taketh away. The media may be trying to claim the President has created or saved jobs (the latest weasel word is hes created job opportunity) but his policies have also cost jobs. In particular his policies are costing jobs in the medical field.
