AFP-AZ Op-ed: Should Legislators Be Paid More?

On the one hand, $24,000 a year for part-time works looks pretty good to the median Arizona household with a single earner, which according to the U.S. Census made only $21,000 in 2012 for part-time work.  And we do not want to incentivize individuals to turn legislating into a lifetime career by paying too much. The logic, as with term limits, stems from the general rule that the longer legislators stay in office, the more they vote to spend, the heavier the regulatory burdens they heap on job creators, and the more out-of-touch they become with ordinary people.
