A health-insurance exchange for Arizona won't help residents

In Arizona, advocates of health-care freedom and true health-care reform need to keep a careful eye on Gov. Jan Brewer and her health-care czar, Don Hughes.
Because the U.S. Supreme Court failed to strike down the president’s health-care legislation, Brewer, Hughes and the big insurance companies in this state intend to implement a key piece of that legislation by setting up an Arizona health-insurance exchange.
On first hearing, the phrase “Arizona exchange” sounds good. The word “Arizona” suggests that the exchange would have greater flexibility than a federal program run by Washington, D.C., bureaucrats. The word “exchange” suggests that insurers would market and sell their products in a consumer-friendly environment.
