Arizona Governor Jan Brewer is getting a lot of bad advice from her advisors and from the health insurance lobby. Under their guidance, her office is spending $30 million of federal taxpayer money to set up an ObamaCare health insurance exchange in Arizona.

(Action link at bottom.)

An Arizona ObamaCare exchange would not just be useless when it comes to protecting consumers or enhancing choice in the Arizona health care market: it would be a positive danger to taxpayers and health care consumers. The existence of state exchanges would make it much more difficult for America to repeal and replace ObamaCare. If we don’t repeal ObamaCare, the result will be massive new taxes, endless burdensome regulations, and huge restrictions on medical choices and individual privacy–as the federal government gradually takes more and more health care decisions away from individuals and families and puts those decisions in the hands of bureaucrats in Washington.

An Arizona ObamaCare exchange would help ObamaCare to survive and avoid repeal. As the ObamaCare legislation is written, federal subsidies must flow through state-created exchanges: no state exchange would mean no federal subsidies, which means that the program would fail much more quickly. In the short run, federal subsidies (paid for with your federal tax dollars and/or massive federal debt increases) will help to disguise how extremely expensive ObamaCare is going to be.

Politically, compliance will be read by Congress and the President as acquiescence. Arizona’s participation in the exchange system will be considered by the politicians in Washington as a “voluntary partnership”–in the same way they now think of the Medicaid-AHCCCS arrangement as a “voluntary partnership.” (which is the same kind of “partnership” enjoyed by the junkie and the pusher…)

The Arizona Legislature must stop the Brewer Administration from setting up an Arizona ObamaCare Exchange!

Here is the text of the Arizona HealthCare Freedom Pledge for members of the Arizona Legislature:

Whereas, I believe that patients, not politicians and bureaucrats, should be in control of health care decisions,

Whereas, I believe that President Obama’s health care legislation will make health care more expensive and less accessible, and will stifle innovation through huge new tax and regulatory burdens,

Whereas, I believe that President Obama’s health care legislation ultimately puts all control in the hands of Washington, through endless regulations and unfunded mandates on Arizona,

Whereas, I believe that any exchange set up in Arizona pursuant to President Obama’s health care legislation will end up being subject to the dictates of the federal health bureaucracy,

Whereas, I understand that President Obama’s health care system, as enacted, is dependent upon the creation of state exchanges for the distribution of federal subsidies, and that the system will be easier to repeal if Arizonans are not allowed to become addicted to federal subsidies,

Whereas, I believe we need a sustainable safety net health care system in Arizona and that the current system is near its breaking point and cannot handle the massive Washington-forced expansion of Medicaid and creation of new health care entitlement programs,

I hereby pledge to OPPOSE any bill, regulation, legislation, or executive action that implements President Obama’s health care legislation, including bills that create new bureaucracies that must be funded by new surcharges, fees, or taxes of any kind.
