Gov. Brewer VETOES health care freedom and transparency bill

April 12, 2013

To all Arizona Health Care Consumers:

Governor Jan Brewer just vetoed SB 1115, a health care freedom bill that would have ensured price transparency for medical services. Meanwhile, Brewer continues her push to allow unelected bureaucrasts to raise hospital bed taxes in Arizona in order to expand Medicaid under ObamaCare. Once again, Brewer has proven that she is no friend of free-market reforms in health care. Click HERE to help us fight the Medicaid expansion, or go to

Please call her office TODAY at (602) 542-4331 and (520) 628-6580 and let her know how disappointed you are. And, please send Gov. Brewer an email by going here:

SB 1115, which received bipartisan support in the Legislature, would have mandated that health care providers provide cash prices (imagine that!) to their customers. By doing so, the reform would have introduced greater price competition to health care in Arizona, and helped to prevent fraud and over-billing.

Price transparency is essential to our health care freedom because it would let the market guide consumers toward optimal health care choices. By putting downward pressure on health care prices, the reform would have helped local businesses that are self-insured or that depend on high-deductible medical insurance plans. This was a great opportunity for Gov. Brewer to demonstrate that she supported free-market reforms in health care — but she blew it.

Thanks to Senator Nancy Barto for introducing SB 1115, and thanks to all of the Legislators from both parties who voted in favor of the bill.

For Liberty, Tom
