Wake Schools Call to Action

Dear Friends,

As you know a new majority has won control of the Wake County School Board. The candidates that were sworn in on Tuesday, have quickly moved to deliver on their promises to stop wasteful spending, listen to parents, stop mandatory year around assignments and most importantly end the destructive race based busing system ridiculously disguised as bussing for socio economic diversity.

As noted by the Civitas Institute the 5 person majority has a strong mandate from an overwhelming majority of parents and voters in Wake County.

In August Civitas did a poll of voters in the districts that the new board members represent.

These districts comprise over 270,000 voters and when you add in Ron Margiotta’s district’s 72,000 voters you get over 59% of Wake voters living in those 5 districts.

3 out of every 5 Wake County voters live in districts 1,2,7,8 & 9. They should have the majority and set policy.

On the resolutions: 69% oppose assigning students based on diversity. 70% say that the policy of assigning for “socio-economic diversity” is unfair!

68% are in favor of Ending Mandatory Year Round Assignments.

The results of the election and the resulting agenda of the freedom loving members of the board is not sitting well with radical union organizers.

With them the education of students does not come first, politics and payoffs are more important. The new school board thinks educating children comes first.

The leading union organizer, who does not even live in Wake County, recently stated in an email about the new members of the school board "They don’t care about children and it is now clear that they don’t care about teachers…WE HAVE Planted OUR FLAG IN THE SAND HERE AND NOW”

Another union agitator said that "this represents a select group being catered to, and we will not stand for it"

The union leaders clearly have no respect for elections or civil discourse. They have every right to organize, but they do not have the right to obstruct, interrupt and intimidate. As noted by the News and Observer the union leadership was repeatedly warned to stop interrupting the meeting finally ceasing after a warning that security would be called.

School board member Keith Sutton, who was part of the majority on the previous board and supports the discredited policy, credited the vocal outbursts from the union crowd as helping slow the progress of change the new school board is trying to make.

Clearly union organizers will stop at nothing to protect the status quo at the expense of our children, taxpayers and the will of the voters.

That is why I am sending this urgent call to action. The new majority on the Wake School Board needs your support now.

Americans for Prosperity’s Wake County members will be taking part in a “Support change, support the new board rally" before the next school board meeting. We will then attend the meeting as a show of support for the new school board majority.

Support Change, Support the New Board Rally

You will need to arrive early, because the disruptive union organizers and special interests will certainly try to fill every seat to keep your voice from being heard. Let me be clear, union organizers will fight our new school board at every turn and you must join the fight now so the noisy union bosses and special interests do not win the day.

One radical liberal wrote on his blog this week that "The battle over the future of Wake County has begun." The battle was actually won at the polls this fall; the other side is trying to erase your election victory.

The question is, will the overwhelming majority of voters who oppose forced busing, wasteful spending and forcing unwilling parents into year-rounds schools be listened to? Or will union organizers, special interests and defenders of the status quo stop the change voters demanded.

I urge you to attend the rally and the next school board meeting on Tuesday December 15th.
