Texas Association of Counties Claim Taxpayers are the Enemy

In a recent article by Texas Association of Counties, taxpayer advocate groups are called to the carpet for defending taxpayer rights. The article even takes it a step further by snubbing the idea of a Taxpayer Bill of Rights. They snub the idea of a TABOR because it keeps our local governments accountable and hinders them from violating our liberty - giving more power to the people and less to elected officials.

TAC also makes the outrageous (and clearly uninformed) claim that AFP and our members are "Astroturf" or fake grassroots. Last time we checked, none of our members received a paycheck to fight for a Taxpayer Bill of Rights or to end the practice of taxpayer-funded lobbying. And none of you are fake. You're real, living, breathing tax-paying Americans who want to practice your right to decide just how much government you want and are willing to pay for.

Peggy Venable, State Director of Americans for Prosperity - Texas, has written an opinion editorial in response to TAC. Within it she states, "Wow! No wonder taxpayers are Public Enemy No. 1. Taxpayer advocates are after elected officials to provide government transparency."
