Health Care Update from Cong. Shadegg

Healthcare, Cap and Trade Update and Events

Healthcare Reform

Hopefully, many of you were able to join us on the conference call last night with Congressman John Shadegg. If you weren’t on the call, here’s the latest on health care:

People who willfully don’t buy health insurance could be subject to fines up to $25,000. and a year in jail. DC powerbrokers are including special provisions for their respective states, i.e., Reid’s Nevada exempt from paying state portion of Medicaid, Schumer’s NY taxed on $24,000 health policies rather than other states’ $21,000 level, etc. Congressman Shadegg called this Gulag-style legislating, subject to the worst sort of corruption.

Some activist stats: 50% of AFP members on the call have phoned their Congressman’s DC office, 23% have attended an event protesting current health care proposal or a protest against excessive spending, only 14% have called their local Congressional offices. Congressman Shadegg encouraged everyone to do so; in GA, I’d add - especially those of you who live in swing districts like Bishop, Marshall, Barrow, & Scott. Call your Congressman only, please.

Health care reform gained approval from the Senate Finance Committee this week, clearing the way for consideration by the full Senate. The House seems likely to pass a different version, then a conference committee would have to work out the differences.

Friends, if you’ve never acted, now is the time! Pass on our petition to anyone in the United States. Talk to your coworkers, relatives, and friends. Give them their Congressman’s phone number to call. There are many ways to reform health care without these drastic government growing, business killing, freedom robbing proposals. But first, this proposals must be defeated.

Cap-and-Trade (Tax)

Cap-and-Trade is expected to be brought back up in early November. Here’s an insightful article, “Keeping America in the Dark.”

The GA Tea Party group invites you to its October 18th world premier of the eye-opening documentary entitled Not Evil, Just Wrong. Produced by internationally known journalists and filmmakers, Ann McElhinney and Phelim McAleer, Not Evil, Just Wrong tackles the so-called global warming issue and challenges Al Gore’s film, An Inconvenient Truth, with historical fact and scientific testimony in a fast-paced cinematic style. Not Evil, Just Wrong presents the truth about global warming in a manner that puts the lie to those who would destroy our free-market economy through proposed Cap-and-Trade legislation.

Screening: Oct. 18th, 3 PM, AMC 24 Cinema at Barrett Commons in Marietta.

Let’s keep the heat on Congress to vote no for both of these atrocious bills.
