Changing the Nation, One State at a Time
Many of us in Texas have encouraged higher education reforms which provide greater transparency and accountability. Though the reform efforts are slow in coming, some are underway which will help lower the cost to taxpayers and students, as well as provide more transparency in how higher education funds are spent.
It started with Gov. Rick Perry challenging higher education to come up with a four-year program which would provide a degree for $10,000 or less. (Yes, it can be done!)
And while Texas may have jump-started the conversation, it appears other states are also looking at higher education and how taxpayers and students can get a quality education without breaking the state budget or continuing to run up unprecedented student debt (which is expected to hig $1 trillion this year, surpassing all credit card debt in the country.)
The challenge is on and if other states are also looking for innovation in higher education, students, taxpayers and parents could be the benefit!
