Stop #1- Enid, OK-- We kicked off our "Barnstorming Tour for Liberty" dark and early this morning at 5:30 a.m. on Prayer Force One, an old greyhound bus that's been painted with the same paint as Reagan's Air Force One. It's beautiful! As we cruised down the highway, we got thumbs up from passers by, which foreshadowed the great success we would have at our first stop in Enid at the Wee Too Restaurant at 7:30 a.m. People there were more than excited to learn about how they could get involved in advancing liberty in our state and our nation. Donna, an Enid resident, commented, "We're excited you're here. This is something we've needed for a long time."
Now we're headed to Ponca City, where we'll have lunch at Head Country BBQ and work to engage more Oklahomans in the fight for liberty.
Stop #2- Ponca City, OK-- We just finished our stop in Ponca City at Head Country BBQ where we had people from more than an hour's drive away come to learn about how to get involved with AFP Foundation and American Majority. People showed up early, indicating their interest in learning more about free-market ideals, and they walked away with the information they need to make a difference.
Now we're on our way to Montana Mike's Steakhouse in Bartlesville to have dinner with more like-minded Oklahomans.
Stop #3: Bartlesville--Our final stop yesterday was in Bartlesville at Montana Mike's Steakhouse where we had the best turnout of the day. Everyone in attendance was fired up about limited government and free-market principles and a few people spoke up during the meeting to voice their opinions and express their excitement about what AFP Foundation and American Majority are doing.
Also, Scott and Norma with the Let Oklahoma Vote campaign came out and brought their Oklahoma-shaped parade float to inform people about the ballot initiative measure that is soon to be on the governor's desk. Overall, Monday was a great success and we look forward to meeting with more conservative Oklahomans during the rest of our tour.
We still love our Prayer Force One bus. Visit their website at www.PrayerForceOne.com.
Stop #4: Claremore--This morning we woke up in Claremore, ready for another day of Barnstorming. Our first meeting of the day was at Eggbert's at 7:30 a.m. where everyone seemed ready to become active in advancing liberty. The crowd wasn't shy and asked lots of questions. After a great breakfast, we're back on the road headed to Tahlequah for lunch at Cherry Springs Restaurant.
Stop #5: Tahlequah-- Yesterday at lunch, we stopped in Tahlequah at Cherry Springs Restaurant where we had a beautiful view of the golf course with a fresh breeze. Pam, a leader in the Cherokee County Republican Women, attended our meeting and is excited to share AFP's message with her group. We also had several students attend the Tahlequah meeting. It's great to see young people getting involved in the conservative movement. On to Muskogee...
Stop #6: Muskogee-- Our final stop yesterday was in Muskogee at Cowboy's BBQ. We had the biggest turnout so far and clearly have a strong conservative network growing there. Oklahomans in this area are interested in learning more about the issues and several have already started becoming active by signing a postcard addressed to Governor Henry asking him to pass the Let Oklahoma Vote ballot initiative measure.
Stop #7: Lawton-- Our first stop today was in Lawton at IHOP at 8 a.m. We had excited people come out for our meeting and even got the press to cover it! There were no outlets for us to hook up the PowerPoint, but the crowd stayed engaged throughout, despite our off-the-cuff presentation. Afterwards, a couple people came out to see our bus, Prayer Force One (www.prayerforceone.com), and were really impressed. We're still loving our ride and are so thankful to have such great transportation, complete with WI-FI!
Stop #8: Altus-- Our final stop in Altus at Val's Restaurant was a big hit. We had a tie for the largest turnout and met the nicest people. It was great to have a mixed crowd of city government officials and concerned citizens; and it led to great discussion. After a delicious meal, we're headed back to our homes in the OKC metro area. Despite our exhaustion, the tour was a great success and we look forward to doing similar events in the future. For now, a nap is in order!
