Saw the clip, read the papers and still shaking my head about Governor Nixon's statement:
“Missourians paid their taxes, and if there's debt, Missouri kids and grandkids will pay that debt off,” Nixon said Sunday morning in an interview on C-SPAN's "Washington Journal.”
I understand his thought process, 'If we are going to have to pay for it then we should get something for it.' Seems to make sense but ignores reality.
The Governor glosses over the very real fact that if he follows through on his "promise" to spend every dime, a topic in and of itself, he will in fact not be getting Missouri taxpayers' monies worth, he will be charging them twice for the "Free" money. How's that you ask?
A significant amount of the porkulus bill is increased government spending on programs at the state level. If states fall into this trap, they will expand programs that in two years they will have to tax people on to support because the "Free" money will be gone.
But wait you say, if it's really that bad then all the feds have to do is give states more money! And that's as scary as double taxing us. Either way we pay double!
Governor Nixon has already decided to spend all the ill-gotten gain from the stimulus package. He wasn't standing with the majority of Missourians fighting against the stimulus but he is sure first in line to spend money.
AFP-MO will be making sure Missourians get the opportunity to weigh in and have their voices heard about how their borrowed money is being spent. Watch for more details to come!
