Texas' TABOR Victories

AFP's major state issue, a spending limit -- TABOR -- has taken off.

In Texas, we got a tabor enacted for school districts (a major part of the public spending) and Gov. Perry is campaigning on the TABOR-type spending limit.

The Republican Party has put it on their primary ballot as a non-binding initiative. (That will provide us with a gauge of how popular the issue is with Republican Party voters.)

Also, each two years, we have an opportunity to educate and advocate for our key issues using the precinct caucus meetings which take place after the primary election.

AFP-Texas prepares resolutions which our members then take to the caucus meetings, advocate, get passed, and ultimately get put into the party platforms. This is an educational, advocacy and issue-building opportunity. Our members learn to take ownership of the issue, articulate why it is important, and walk away with a feeling of empowerment when the issues pass.

We have gotten enacting spending limits, ending taxpayer-funded lobbying, and other key issues into the party platforms. It is basically free and has become something our members and others eagerly await and use.
