Tom Jenney currently serves as state director for the Arizona Chapter of Americans for Prosperity, formerly the Arizona Federation of Taxpayers (www.aztaxpayers.org). He earned an associate’s degree from the New Mexico Military Institute and a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies from Georgetown University. After graduation, Tom entered into conservative politics, working in Washington, DC, for the Institute for Justice and the Cato Institute. He has also done translations for the Center for Pension Reform in Santiago, Chile and from 2002 to 2004, was communications director of the Goldwater Institute.
A Tucson native, Jenney began his involvement with Americans for Prosperity in 2006. Americans for Prosperity is one of the premier grassroots citizen lobbyist organizations in the country with over 300,000 members nationwide. Americans for Prosperity is a citizen watchdog organization focused on promoting the free-market and issues such as budget reform, lower taxes, government transparency and accountability.
During his tenure with AFT, Jenney helped to reduce state income and property taxes, and helped lead the fight to pass Prop 207, the Private Property Rights Protection Act. From 2004 to 2008, Jenney oversaw the publication of the AFT-AFP “Friend of the Taxpayer” Legislative Scorecard. Continuing this spirit of limited government into his service with AFP Arizona, his actions led to the defeat of the TIME referendum, which would have imposed a one-cent sales tax increase on the state.
